A If your child is absent, please call school (708-496-8716) to let us know.
The students will have art with Mrs. O'Hanley every Monday.
B If you would like to send a birthday treat with your child on or near his/her birthday, please feel free to do so. These treats must be store bought.
I will send home book order forms for you and your child every month. Book clubs offer books at reduced prices. It’s a great way to build your child’s home library!
C Parent and Teacher conferences are held at the end of the first and second quarter. Information about signing up is available at Open House/Curriculum Night.
D Dressing appropriately for the weather is very important. Our classroom can be chilly, so please send a sweatshirt or sweater with your child.

F We will take field trips this year. You will receive more information as they are closer!
G Our class will have gym on Thursdays and Fridays with Mrs. LaRocque. The children should wear gym shoes on these days.
H The students will have 15-20 minutes of independent reading as homework every night. They students may also have additional homework such as spelling or math.
I Independence is a goal for students because it builds self-esteem and self-confidence. I encourage kids to do as much as they can for themselves in the classroom.
J Writing takes place every day in our writing journals. The students will be writing based on math, reading, and vocabulary topics throughout the year.
K Keeping to Brodnicki’s hours of attendance is very important. School hours are 8:10-2:30. The first few minutes can set the tone for the rest of the day. If your child walks in even a few minutes late, it can be a distraction for the entire class. Please set a good example and make sure your child is punctual.
L Our class will visit the school library every week. Your child will check out a book when we visit the library and return it the following week.
Our class eats lunch at 10:50. If lunch money is sent to school, please send it in an envelope with your child’s name and room number on it.
M The children will have music class with Ms. Loeffler every Tuesday and Wednesday.
The 2nd grade Math curriculum provides students with mathematical experiences that help them develop number sense and a positive attitude toward mathematics. Many of our math concepts are covered through our daily routine.
N A newsletter will be sent home often to keep you informed about what is happening in our class.
O Please remind your child to empty their folder daily and review any materials sent home from the office. It is the students’ responsibility to turn in any forms, money, etc. to me in the morning that needs to be sent down to the office.
P Please do not send party invitations to be distributed at school unless all children receive an invitation.

R Second graders have a 20 minute recess everyday at 11:30. As long as it is dry and above 20 degrees we will be going outside! Please dress your child accordingly, especially in the winter.
S The focus of the 2nd grade Science curriculum will be plant life, matter, and Earth’s resources/recycling. The Social Studies curriculum focuses on settlements becoming colonies, government, economics, geography, and current events. Both science and social studies concepts and skills will be explored utilizing a literacy based, hands-on approach.
Our class will be having a snack each day. Please remember to send you child to school with a healthy snack.
T If your child has any changes in transportation, please let the school know.
U Please help your child to understand the importance of homework. Our blue homework folders help us to stay organized, and even include a spot for parents to initial once all homework is completed and checked. I will check daily for parent initials.
V Please consider volunteering in our classroom this year. I would love to have you help during special projects or events.
W, X, Y Your ideas are always welcome. I am so eXcited when you share your ideas with me!
